Granada Bridge over Halifax River - Ormond Beach Florida - 13 October 2026

We left Kings Bay Georgia 10 October 2026 to drive about 120 miles to Ormond Beach Florida. We stayed at Tomoka State Park for five nights and we got to see the area when it wasn't raining. Hurricane Isaias had made landfall the night before we arrived at Ormond Beach and we actually had to turn around near the state park entrance due to water over the road. It was about a foot deep and salt water, so we didn't want to drive through that. We called the state park and they explained how to go around and approach the entrance coming from the other way. A local couple also stopped to tell us how to go around after they had watched us back up and turn around. We had pulled over to call the state park and that's when they stopped to tell us how to go. Once we got settled, the campground was very nice. The road still had water over it about three days after we had arrived. The road also was lined on both sides with old live oak trees that have grown over the road with hanging Spanish moss. There was a sign that said " Low Trees Clearance 12'6". We're 12'8", so we zig zagged our way along through the low parts. It was about 6 miles of this beautiful stretch of road.

We had had another thing that's never happened before when we left South Carolina to head to Kings Bay Georgia. Shortly after we left the county park that morning, a car pulled up beside us to let us know we were dragging a cable! We hadn't noticed and couldn't imagine what we had on our roof that had a cable. Well we pulled into a gas station as soon as we could and found a cable about 75 feet in length doubled all along the roof and dragging behind our camper about 20 feet. Steve had to get on the roof to free it and Anita gathered it up and put it in the dumpster. The cable was old and stiff and had a coaxial connector on one end. We don't know where we picked it up, but we hope since it was old that it wasn't anyone's antenna cable.

We traveled to Ormond Beach on a Saturday, so we attended mass the Sunday morning at 9:30am. We went to St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. It's a huge church with a school and activities buildings on the grounds.

We explored Tomoka State Park and Ormond Beach Florida while we were there. We did a couple of hikes inside the state park and one day we walked the Granada Bridge over the Halifax River. It is only about .4 mile so we found other walks throughout the day to get our steps in. We went to the High Bridge fishing pier in Ormond Beach and had our lunch there. We wanted to walk the fishing pier at Flagler Beach on the ocean but it is being rebuilt after a hurricane a few years ago. We enjoyed our time in Ormond Beach Florida and we were looking forward to Homosassa Springs Florida where we will be for one month.
