We arrived at Scott City Kansas on Sunday 27 April 2025 for three nights. This was a stop to break up the trip to Cheyenne Wyoming where we'll stay a bit longer. The campground is called Pine Tree RV Park and is on Main Street in Scott City. It's a small park with no amenities, but served our needs quite well. We spent the first of our two days at the campsite cleaning and talking with Lippert for help getting our tire pressure monitoring system working again. We finally got Steve's phone working, but Anita's is an Android so will have to wait for Lippert's app update for Androids.
After all our chores and "work", we went for a walk into downtown Scott City.

On Tuesday 29 April, we went to see Historic Lake Scott State Park. We were both pleasantly surprised. Most of what we had seen of Kansas so far was flat and open, but the state park had the large lake and lots of hills and rocks. The park was also teeming with birds! Steve identified 29 species during our hike.
When we left the Historic Lake Scott State Park we drove out to Monument Rocks. Monument Rocks, also known as the Chalk Pyramids, are located about 18 miles northeast of Scott City. These prehistoric Niobrara chalk formations are a series of 70-foot tall buttes and arches, and were part of the Cretaceous Period's (about 145 - 66 million years ago) former seabed. They are the first National Natural Landmark in Kansas and one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas.
We had about 10 miles of gravel roads once we turned off US-83. About a mile before we turned off 83, we saw two buffalos. They were within a fence, so probably belong to a farmer. We also saw wild turkeys strutting on our drive. Soon after we turned onto the gravel road, we saw prairie dogs and burrowing owls! It was an exciting day for spotting wildlife.
