Day Trip in the Adirondacks

We left Watkins Glen New York on 10 June 2026 and drove to North Hudson New York for two nights, leaving us one day to site see. We decided to drive to the Ausable Chasm, Lake Placid, and Tupper Lake then head back to North Hudson. With other stops we made along the way like at the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb and an old lodge in Upper Works New York, where Teddy Roosevelt was when he got the call about President McKinley being near death, our one day was full.

The Ausable Chasm is known as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks and has been open to the public since 1870. We found it to be quite commercialized and opted to just see what we could on our own. We didn't have time for a gondola ride or ziplining which were among other things offered.

Another remnant from ghost mining town...

We had one whirlwind day in the Adirondacks, but we enjoyed every minute of it. We had great weather, so it was a beautiful drive all the way through. We made our way to Fryeburg Maine on 12 June, where we will be attending the "Wicked Good! Escapade 2026", being held at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds 14-19 June. Although we've been Escapee members since we hit the road in 2022 and we get our mail through the Escapee Mail Service, we've never attended on Escapee event. We got here a couple of days before this year's escapade kicks off, so we had no problem getting into our site. As I write this, many more campers have been squeezed in all around us and they keep coming in. There are seminars, socials and excursions throughout the escapade, so we know we'll be as busy as we want to be.
