Chautauqua Lake

We drove from East Harbor State Park in Marblehead Ohio to Allegany State Park in Salamanca New York on Friday 5 June.  We had officially started our trip up to Fryeburg Maine for the 2026 Escapade. The Escapade dates are 14-19 June, but we opted to arrive early (12 June), so we still had plenty of time to get there. After we got set up at Allegany State Park, we went to check in and the park agent gave us some “must see” spots in the park since we only had a couple of days to see things.  We went ahead and drove around the park and found the Stone Tower and Thunder Rocks.  Both sites were more than we were expecting.  We also drove by Science Lake in our travels.

Clinton's Lily

At the New York Welcome Center, Anita had seen that there is the Lucy Desi Museum in Jamestown, which is only about 30 miles from our campground.  Lucille Ball was born in Jamestown so her children donated many of their parents’ things for this museum.  We only had one full day for site seeing, so we planned to go to the museum and then mass at 4:00pm.  We enjoyed our day in Jamestown.  It’s a town full of history and many cobblestone streets.  We attended mass at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Salamanca NY. 

Our campsite had no Internet nor antenna channels on the TV, so we read.  Fortunately, we both had a few books in reserve.
