We drove to Les Mechins Quebec on Monday 20 July 2026. We stopped in Rimouski Quebec for our 11am appointment at Caravane Rimouski. Patrick was our technician and he determined right away that at least one of our 4 fuses for the 4 stabilizer jacks was loose. He made sure they were all in all the way and then he reset the leveling system. Auto Level worked when Patrick tested it, so we felt like the problem was fixed. Patrick also showed Steve how to bring each jack down from the computer. We were there about an hour and they charged $126.02(CA). We were elated that the problem was so easy to fix and that it didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Steve had read about a submarine in Rimouski that he wanted to check out so we drove there and had our lunch there. There was plenty parking for trucks towing campers and there were lots of those parked in the lot. We got the information on the submarine and the lighthouse and decided to only do the lighthouse since we wanted to get back on the road to Les Mechins. The submarine tour was an hour and a half. The lighthouse was 15 minutes. We climbed the 128 steps up to the top of the lighthouse and Steve continued up the two ladders to the very top. Anita opted not to do the ladders since the idea of coming down the ladders didn’t feel comfortable. Going up is no problem. Anita went down and waited for the group to come down. Steve was the last one down as the tour guide gave him all the information in English after the Canadians heard it all in French. The rest of our trip along the St. Lawrence River to Les Mechins was uneventful but with beautiful views. Our “Auto-Level” did not work when we arrived, but Steve was able to bring the back stabilizers down and we got pretty level. We’ll have to have the leveling system really fixed when we get back to the US.

Empress of Ireland Museum

This museum is located near the submarine and lighthouse. It's website says: Built in 1906, this 168m long ship belonged to the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. For 8 years, it transported thousands of travelers, workers and immigrants between the cities of Quebec and Liverpool before knowing a tragic end off the shore of Pointe-au-Pere on the night of 29th of May 1914. Its terrible sinking in 14 minutes remains to this day, the greatest maritime tragedy in Canadian history. Fifty years later, the wreck is located and protected as cultural property (since 1999).

On Tuesday 21 July we went out to explore the area and to find a hike in Parc National Gaspesie that’s a little over 3 miles that we had seen on YouTube. It took us a while to find the hike, so we finally were on the trail starting at 11:30am. We hiked a little over 3 miles and got to the top to see a 360-degree view of Mont Ernest-Laforce. It was a beautiful day for a hike and we decided to see a waterfall in the national park, Chute du Ste Anne. From there we checked out a pool of water where Atlantic salmon might be seen swimming. We found La Grande Fosse but didn’t see any salmon. Our final stop on our day of exploring was to stop for groceries. We stopped at a Metro store and found most of what we wanted. Milk is sold here in bags instead of jugs. Being the Americans we are, we squeeze it into an empty water jug (gallon). Steve sort of looks like he’s milking a cow when he’s transferring from the bag to the jug. We had stopped at a restaurant to have lunch for a change on Tuesday at Gite du Mont-Albert in Ste Anne des Monts. By the time we had our lunch it was almost 3pm, so we ended up having a late dinner after getting home around 6:30pm.
