We gave it the college try to get a campsite inside Acadia National Park at Schoodic Woods Campground, but it was not meant to be this year. On 21 June 2026, we arrived at Sullivan Maine to stay at Acadia Seashore Camping & Cabins for 4 nights. This campground was only a few miles outside the national park, so we went into Acadia just about every day. On Monday 22 June we did two weeks worth of laundry and re-stocked our groceries. Bitsy, our friend from Maryland who also has a house in Corea Maine, came to see us in Sullivan the Monday evening. Steve went to a well-known place a couple of doors down from the campground to pick up lobster rolls for dinner. He was gone for about an hour. We got a little concerned after about 45 minutes and called Steve, and everything was fine. The service was just excruciatingly slow! We finally got our dinner and enjoyed our lobster rolls.

On Tuesday 23 June Steve and Anita both got much needed haircuts. Steve had to drive to Bangor to find a CVS for his prescription refill, so he did that while Anita was in the hair stylist's chair. After all that, we didn't have much time left in the day to site see, so we went to the Wild Gardens of Acadia and walked through the gardens.

On the Thursday (25 June) we moved to Corea Maine to park in Bitsy's driveway. She insisted on us staying with her in the house so to not have to deal with emptying tanks when we left, we started to think staying in the house would be easier. It did turn out to be very nice staying in the house with Bitsy. She really treated us like a king and queen. Bitsy and Bob (her husband who passed away a couple of years ago) have been going to Maine every summer for 40 years, so she has tons of information about the area. Anita was in the mood to see some sort of performing arts, so Bitsy found a performance at the Monteux School. We had picked up a dozen oysters to go with our lobster that evening. After a delicious dinner of oysters and fresh steamed lobster we went out for some culture. Bitsy has a lobsterman friend who brings her lobster when she asks.
The Monteux School and Music Festival for conductors and orchestra musicians, founded by conductor Pierre Monteux, is a 6-week summer orchestra program located in Hancock, Maine. That evening's offering was chamber music performed by horns and stringed instruments. It was very nice.
The rest of our time at Bitsy's flew by! We found several things to see and do each day and we were spent by the end of each day. On Friday we went out to lunch and then we saw a museum and natural garden. That day it looked like rain often during the day and we even got a little drizzle. We opted for the museum to be inside.

One is hard pressed to find an establishment without a water view in the Corea/Gouldsboro area. We noticed the lobster boats in most harbors and the water was just a beautiful blue.

Tidal Falls - Sullivan Maine - 26 June 2026
From the Internet: In Maine, the Taunton River is a tidal waterway flowing into Taunton Bay, which straddles Hancock, Sullivan, and Franklin. It feeds into the dramatic reversing whitewater at Tidal Falls, and supports the nation's northernmost population of horseshoe crabs and globally significant eelgrass beds.

On Sunday (28 June) Bitsy took us to St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cherryfield Maine. This is the church Bob's grandfather attended back in the day. The church is 172 years old and it was originally where the parking lot is located. 40 years ago, a hole was dug and a basement built, then the church building was rolled over the basement and today's church remains that way.
After mass, we took a chance that the Downeast Institute in Beals Maine would be open. Bitsy thought Steve would like it with his background and his liking to fish. It turned out to be Shell-ebration Day! There were presentations, taste tests and tours. We tasted enough oysters, mussels, salmon and brook trout to call it lunch, then we did the tour of the facility after going to the oyster farm for a tour. It was quite an event!

Private Garden - A gentleman created this beautiful garden many years ago. His wife and daughters now maintain it and allow people to come in to see it. The grand daughter happened to be there when we approached the gate. She graciously invited us in and offered to answer any questions we might have about the plants and flowers.
