Texas for a Month & 2 Weeks in Toledo Bend Louisiana

Texas is a large state, so it took us a few days to get from New Mexico to Livingston Texas for our annual doctor appointments. We stopped at San Angelo State Park in Texas for two nights and then Waco Texas for two nights, before arriving in Livingston. We saw all the doctors and Steve got injections of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in both knees on 15 April. We both got clean bills of health from all the check-ups, so we're good on doctor visits until Steve is ready to see the orthopedist in Houston for his knee replacement. He's thinking it'll be Spring of 2027. He's always in pain even after the injections. Supposedly the injections reach their maximum effectiveness by 3-6 months. So far Steve says it's a little less pain than before the injections, but not really anything to write home about.

We stayed two nights at San Angelo State Park and attended mass at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo. The church was founded in 1884, and it was named a cathedral in 1961. The present church was built in the Modern architectural style.

We were pleasantly surprised to see Blessed Carlo Acutis depicted in a stained glass in the cathedral. He is the first Millennial Saint - Canonized September 7, 2025

Anita's niece, Kassi and her husband John, saw the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis' in Assisi Italy last May (2025) on their pilgrimage to Medjugorje.

We tried to see the Davidian Branch Compound at the Mount Carmel Center, but it wasn't open the day we were there. From the Internet: The 1993 Waco siege was a 51-day standoff between federal agents and the Branch Davidians, a religious sect led by David Koresh, ending in a fire that killed over 80 people on April 19, 1993. Located at the Mount Carmel Center near Waco, Texas, the conflict began with a failed ATF raid on February 28, 1993, to seize illegal weapons.

Between 22 March and 22 April, we were in Livingston for two weeks, Conroe for two weeks and Lufkin for two nights. We saw our friends Patrick and Kathy while we were in Lufkin Texas. They are building a house in Tyler Texas and they met us for dinner the day we arrived in Lufkin.

From Lufkin Texas, we drove to Zwolle Louisiana (near Texas state line) to stay for two weeks to prep our boat to sell it. When we started on this adventure of being full time travelers, we thought we would use our boat when we were in this neck of the woods, but we haven't used it once in almost 4 years, so we want to sell it. Steve cleaned the boat and we had to have the motor checked out by a mechanic. Scheduling the mechanic took a few days and then his second visit to install new filters was a few more days later. By the time the boat was really ready to put on the market, we only had two days left before we were heading to Henderson Louisiana to visit friends and family there. We ended up putting the boat back in storage, but we posted flyers at a couple of boat places and at Toledo Town, a high traffic location for fishermen and boaters. Steve has also posted the boat for sale on Facebook Marketplace and Craig's List. We are currently in Henderson Louisiana, which is 190 miles from where our boat is. If we get any serious interest in the boat before 21 May, we could drive back to Toledo Bend to show it and hopefully sell it.
