Four Days On the St. Lawrence Seaway (Johnstown Ontario)

We arrived at Grenville RV Park in Johnstown Ontario on 25 July 2024 for four nights. We have been moving about every four days for a couple of weeks now and it gets tiring, so we sort of took it easy here. There were historic sites and walking trails within 3 miles of our campground that we checked out and we drove about 70 miles to Kingston Ontario (the first capital of Canada). To our pleasant surprise our own Internet box works here and that's because we're so close to the US border. We can see the border from our back window. It's been good to have a secure connection for doing our banking. We've also enjoyed streaming movies and having the creature comforts we've done without for almost two months. We have one more stop in Ontario, then we'll be crossing back into the US in Michigan. We likely won't have our Internet in our last Ontario stop, so our next post may be from the US. We've really enjoyed the slower pace and a little R&R in Johnstown. That's not to say we didn't get a few pictures! There were a couple of things Anita's never seen, so we have pictures. The day we drove out to Kingston, we also got to see the Lower Brewer Lock in operation for a couple of boats to traverse on the UNESCO World Heritage Rideau canal system. Built in the early 19th century for cargo transport it is still active and runs 125 miles from Kingston to Ottawa (current capital of Canada) thru 50 locks. It was really cool to Anita to see the water rise in one area while lowering in the other to let the boats level off.

Our last day (today) in Johnstown we checked out the historic sites close by in the morning and we hung out at our campsite and relaxed the rest of the day. Our campground neighbors came and joined us for a campfire before dinner. They are a local couple who come to this campground for a getaway. We enjoyed a few laughs with Michelle and Bill.
