We arrived in Congress Arizona on 20 October 2024 and are now seeing the end of our stay (20 Dec) coming fast. We had a couple of events we wanted to attend and then a drive or two through subdivisions in the area, but for the most part we're done with our site seeing in and around Congress.
We went to dinner in Wickenburg at Anita's Cocina one evening. The food was so so, but we just had to go to Anita's!

We had heard about the Legends of the West Rodeo and Team roping competitions going on in Wickenburg, so we went to Wickenburg to see some of the competitors. It was constant with team ropers competing one right after the other. We must have seen about 50 teams with only being there about 30 minutes! We went to another arena that had more shade in the stands and witnessed teams roping in 6 seconds! It was really amazing! The following weekend in Las Vegas, national rodeo competitions were being held.

We attended Gold Days at Vulture City on 7 Dec 2024 and our neighbors from the campground, Wes and Faye, from Alberta Canada met us there. We watched the actors' performing shootouts and then ate lunch together. We all walked around a little more at Vulture City, then Wes and Faye headed back to the campground. We wanted to hang out near Wickenburg to see the Christmas event beginning at 5pm. To kill some time, we read about Henry Wickenburg on Wikipedia. Here's what Wikipedia had to say about Henry Wickenburg:
Henry Wickenburg (November 21, 1819 – May 14, 1905) was a Prussian prospector who discovered the Vulture Mine and founded the town of Wickenburg in the U.S. state of Arizona. Wickenburg never married. Mrs. Helene Holland inherited Wickenburg’s personal property in 1903, while he was still alive, and the remainder of his estate in 1905 after Henry Wickenburg died from a gunshot wound in the head. His death was deemed a suicide, but many questioned this ruling, including the sheriff. The mine that he discovered produced as much as $70 million worth of gold during its course of operation, making it the most important gold mine in Arizona.
After reading about Henry Wickenburg unsettling death we decided to visit his gravesite and to see his house. We stayed in Wickenburg till 5pm that evening for their Christmas carols and tree lighting at 7pm. Actually, we left for dinner at 6pm after finding the event to be somewhat disorganized and more for little kids. We did have some good Barbeque at a local restaurant. The Baptist Church was hosting a live nativity, but traffic was at a stand still to even get close to the church, so we just went on home.

Mark and Kathy had us over for dinner again and they invited Mary from church, who also lives at North Ranch. Kathy's hobby is looking at ancestry and she discovered that Mary who is from Basile Louisiana, Mark who is from Church Point Louisiana and Anita who is from Lafayette Louisiana are seventh cousins! What a small world.
