We arrived at Gerald R. Freeman ACOE Campground in Sutton West Virginia on 11 May 2024. Once we were set up, we were pretty tired from the drive so we stayed in. The mountains all around us were beautiful, but not good for phone signal nor Internet. We were there for 5 nights and each read a couple more books. We arrived at a nice campground in Carlisle PA today, and it's wonderful to have Internet and a strong phone signal. We had quite a bit of rain while we were in WV, so we went for hikes and out site seeing between showers. The campground has two hiking trails and we did both of those.

We attended mass at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sutton on Sunday the 12th. Mass was at 11am and we had laundry to do, so we did that after lunch. We walked around the campground at the end of the day. On Monday the 13th, we hiked the longer of the two trails at the campground. It wasn't as long as advertised, but we got 2.5 miles in. We saw a cool salamander on the trail! It had these fluorescing dots on its back and those caught Anita's eye.

On Tuesday the 14th, we ventured out for some site seeing and errands. Steve got a haircut and Anita got a pedicure. We stopped in Webster Springs and at Cherry Falls.

On our last day there (yesterday), we went on the second hike from the campground. Both hikes were somewhat wet since we were on the trails after rain. The second trail was easier and shorter than the first. On this hike, we noticed these huge leaves that neither of us had seen before. We still don't know what plant has such big leaves.

West Virginia is beautiful, but Anita wouldn't want to live there. Like in Kentucky, when out walking anywhere, one can be walking uphill and or downhill no matter if running errands or site seeing. The roads are hilly and curvy for miles. Maybe just a bit over loaded after the same scenarios in Kentucky.
